A Journey to the Heart of Sudan
In the heart of Sudan, during the tumultuous Mahdist War, a young Austrian engineer named Charles Neufeld found himself a prisoner of the Khalifa Abdullah al-Taashi. For twelve long years, Neufeld endured unimaginable hardships as a captive in the Mahdist capital of Omdurman.
In this gripping memoir, Neufeld recounts his extraordinary experiences with vivid detail. From his initial capture to his eventual escape, he paints a vivid picture of life under Mahdist rule. We witness the brutality of the Mahdist regime, the suffering of the Sudanese people, and the resilience of the human spirit in the face of adversity.
More than just a historical account, Prisoner of the Khaleefa is a testament to the indomitable will of one man. Neufeld's story is a reminder that even in the darkest of times, hope can prevail.
