About the Author
Henry Norman was a British travel writer and adventurer who lived in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He was born in London in 1858 and educated at Eton and Cambridge. After graduating from Cambridge, Norman worked as a journalist for several years before embarking on his first major journey in 1895.
Norman traveled extensively throughout the world, but he was particularly interested in Southeast Asia. He visited Thailand and Burma in 1895 and 1896, and his book Journey in Thailand and Burma was published in 1898. The book was a critical and commercial success, and it helped to introduce Southeast Asia to a wider audience.
Norman continued to travel and write throughout his life. He published several other books, including The People and Politics of the Far East (1895) and Japan: Its People and Politics (1904). He also served as a member of the British Parliament from 1900 to 1910.
Norman died in London in 1939 at the age of 81. He is remembered as one of the great travel writers of his time, and his work continues to inspire and inform readers today.
