A Gripping Historical Novel of Power, Love, and Betrayal
Matilda: Empress, Queen, Warrior by Catherine Hanley is a gripping historical novel that tells the extraordinary story of Matilda, one of the most powerful women in English history.
Born into a royal family in 1102, Matilda was the daughter of King Henry I of England and his wife, Matilda of Scotland. She was a beautiful, intelligent, and ambitious woman who was determined to rule England in her own right.
In 1125, Matilda married the Holy Roman Emperor, Henry V. However, her husband died just two years later, and Matilda was forced to return to England.
In 1135, Matilda's father, King Henry I, died without a male heir. Matilda claimed the throne, but her cousin, Stephen, also claimed the throne. England was plunged into a civil war that lasted for nearly two decades.
Matilda fought bravely in the civil war, and she came close to winning the throne on several occasions. However, she was ultimately defeated by Stephen, and she was forced to flee to France.
Matilda died in 1167, but her legacy lived on. She was a powerful and determined woman who fought for what she believed in. She is an inspiration to women everywhere.
