About the Author

John R. Bruning is a retired Marine Corps officer and the author of several books, including The Fighting First: The Untold Story of the US Marines at Okinawa and Victory at Peleliu: The 1st Marine Division's Epic Battle for a Pacific Stronghold.

Bruning served as an infantry officer in the 1st Marine Division during the Vietnam War. He is a graduate of the United States Naval Academy and holds a master's degree in history from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
