Excerpt

One of my favorite stories happened when I was flying a small plane over the Rocky Mountains. I was on my way to deliver a load of supplies to a remote mining camp when I hit a patch of bad weather.

The wind was howling and the snow was coming down sideways. I could barely see out the windshield. But I was determined to get through, so I kept flying.

As I approached the mining camp, I could see that the weather was even worse there. The wind was so strong that it was blowing the snow into huge drifts. I knew that if I tried to land, I would probably crash.

So I decided to circle around and wait for the weather to improve. But the weather didn't improve. In fact, it got worse.

I was starting to get worried. I was running low on fuel and I didn't know how much longer I could stay in the air. I was about to give up and turn back when I saw something out of the corner of my eye.

There was a small clearing in the snow. It was just big enough for my plane to land. I carefully maneuvered the plane into the clearing and landed safely.

I was so relieved to be on the ground. I got out of the plane and took a deep breath of fresh air. I was safe and sound.

As I was walking back to the plane, I saw a group of miners standing there. They had been watching me land. They came over to me and shook my hand.

"You're one hell of a pilot," one of them said. "We've never seen anyone land a plane in these conditions before."

I smiled and thanked them. I was proud of what I had accomplished. I had faced my fears and I had come out on top.
