By David Nasaw

The American Dream is a powerful idea that has inspired millions of people around the world. But where did it come from? And who invented it?

In this groundbreaking book, historian David Nasaw argues that the American Dream was invented by four of the most powerful and influential men of the late 19th century: Andrew Carnegie, John Rockefeller, Jay Gould, and J.P. Morgan. These men amassed vast fortunes through their ruthless business practices, but they also used their wealth to promote the idea of the American Dream.

Nasaw shows how these men created a new vision of America, one that was based on individualism, competition, and the pursuit of wealth. They argued that anyone could achieve success if they worked hard enough and played by the rules. And they used their vast fortunes to fund schools, libraries, and other institutions that would help people achieve their dreams.

The American Dream was a powerful force in American history, and it continues to shape our society today. Nasaw's book is a fascinating and important look at how this idea came to be.
